From stargazing to singing songs and sharing stories, camping is a great way to create memories. You could also be having some more or a nice cold beer. To make it even more fun, why don’t you thrown in a couple of games in there?
Card games are awesome, but here’s a list of other excellent campfire games for adults. When you start any of these games, you’re going to be dubbed the fun one in the group!
1. ABC Name Game
To play the game, first, create a steady beat by clapping. The first camper starts by saying a famous person’s name. The next camper on the right follows by saying another famous person’s name whose name begins with the first letter of the last name of the previous. It has to go together with the beat.
For instance, I say “Albert Einstein,” the next camper says, ” Ellie Goulding,” and the next camper can say, “Goldie Hawn.” The game stops when someone makes a mistake or can’t think of a name. You can make it more challenging by complying with a category. For instance, celebrities who are musicians, or in the NBA, and so on.
2. Heads Up
This game requires two teams. If you have a phone, there’s an app for this match. However, you can go old school and write down the words instead.
The objective of the game is to guess as many words on the cards/phone correctly before time is up. To play, choose one person from your team to do the guessing. Place the phone, the card or the paper with a word on the player’s forehead and make sure he or she can’t see it.
The player has to guess what the word is, by asking yes or no to his group. Those are the only hints he or she can get.
When the player guesses the word right, you can give more, until the time is over.
3. Wink Murder
In this game, one person acts as host. He or she doesn’t play, but instead, must select a murderer and a detective from the group. To do so, the team must close their eyes so the host can go around and pick. The host selects the murderer by tapping twice on their head, and the detective by tapping twice on their shoulders.
Once the host is done selecting, the whole group can open their eyes. Then the fun begins. The objective of the murderer is to “kill” the campers by winking at them. On the other hand, the goal of the detective is to find out who the murderer is. The “civilians” in the game have to try to “die” dramatically when the killer winks at them.
The detective will have to make three guesses of who the murderer is. If he or she gets it right, he can be the host in the next round. If not, then he remains the detective. The murderer on this round can be the next host.
4. Two Truths and a Lie
The objective is to identify which of the three statements are true and which is a lie. Quite simple right? This game is a great icebreaker and a great way to to get to know each other more.
5. Charades
You can never go wrong with a good game of charades. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t know the game, but just in case you don’t know it, don’t worry. I’ll still share the mechanics of the match. First, divide the group into at least two teams.
In each round of the game, one person from each team will take turns acting out a particular word or phrase. These could be in different categories, like movies, songs, place, etc. Then, their teammates have to guess what it is in a limited amount of time. If they guess it right, then they get the point. Remember, the actor cannot say or even mouth anything.
6. Whisper Challenge
This game is hilarious! First of all, all campers need to pair up. Each pair is a team and will be doing the whisper challenge to each other. The goal of the game is to guess what words your partner is mouthing. You have to be a certain distance from each other, and if possible, the one guessing has to have headphones on.
To make things more interesting, give the player words that are ridiculous or easy to mistaken with something else.
7. Never have I Ever
This game needs at least two players. It’s another one of those games that are perfect for getting to know more about your campmates. However, in this game, you will get to know who’s done ridiculous, crazy, or stupid things. Each player will need 10 pennies each to give away.
To start, one camper will say complete the statement “Never have I ever” with something he or she hasn’t done. Then, if someone in the group has done it, has to give a penny to that player. For example, I say, “Never have I ever gone skinny dipping.” Then anyone in the group who has done it has to give me a penny.
The person who collects the most pennies win. You can also turn this into a drinking game. So, whoever has done, the absolute thing has to have a shot of whatever drink you have.
8. Telephone
Playing this game is sure to get you some good laughs. The group needs to sit in a circle (around the campfire, apparently.) It starts with a person whispering a phrase to her right. Then, the group continues to pass the message to the right until it gets to the last person. He or she will then say the phrase out loud – no matter how silly it may seem.
Throughout the game, the message is most likely going to change from one person to another. To make it even more challenging, only say the phrase once or twice (depending on what the group decides).
9. Fortunately/Unfortunately
When it gets boring around the campfire, let this game turn things around! Stir up your creativity and silliness with a group storytelling with a twist. The first person starts the story with and the next person has to initiate the sentence with “unfortunately.” Then, the next one starts with “fortunately.” You can go for many rounds or until you want to stop.
10. 3,6,9, Boom!
This game requires a little concentration. The objective of the game is to count from 1 to 100 or more while skipping numbers with 3, 6, and 9. Instead of verbalizing numbers with 3, 6, or 9, you say, “Boom!” Start from one person and count around the circle.
When someone makes a mistake of saying 3, 6, or 9 instead of “Boom,” they have a point against them. When they reach 3 points, they have to do something as a consequence. You can also draw on their face as a consequence. Also, you don’t have to start over from 1; just continue from where you left off.
Conclusion
