AAA provides its 55 million strong members with a comprehensive guide to the best camping information. AAA has a regular program where it inspects each campsite listed in its AAA Campbooks.

If you plan to have a bonfire, they have firewood available for purchase. There is ample parking space available at the entrance for your RVs.

Rainbow trout abound in the area and I’ve caught a lot from the shore and I’m definitely not a pro. You can bring your own canoe or kayak like I do.

Here’s some good news for hikers. They have direct access to the Colorado trail, which is one of the most popular trails in Colorado and will take you deep into mountain country. It is also an ideal place for off-roading, mountain biking, bird watching and star gazing.

If you’re bringing your kids with you, they have interesting educational talks on wildlife, local history, and constellations. Your kids would surely learn a lot about nature after hearing those talks. Just inquire in their campground office for the schedules of their talks. The outdoor activities are truly the best in Colorado if not the best in America.

You can easily check the availability of your desired date and campsite. You can already check-in at 1:00 PM. Check out time is 11:00 AM. Don’t forget that you must stop at their office first before proceeding to the campground.

The maximum number of guests per campsite is 8 while the maximum number of tents you can use per campsite is 2. You can bring a maximum of 2 RVs per campsite. If you have more, you have to reserve another campsite.

One good thing about visiting Molas Lake Campground is that it has a campsite which is ADA-accessible. This means that they have American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant showers and restrooms for your family members who are using wheelchairs. Molas Lake Campground conforms to ADA regulations. This campsite is the level which does not provide challenges for your handicapped friend or family member.

For just $20 a night, disabled campers can enjoy the extra-large campsite which has a concrete surface with paved access to a clean vault-style restroom. You should bring your disability parking permit with you to have priority parking slot.

But if you want to have a view of the rock cliff area, then the Standard RV is for you. You will be in awe by the unique geological rock formations. There are also walk-in campsites that are for light packers. If you don’t mind being away from your car, you can just walk 50 to 200 feet to your campsite.

Another reason why you should check out Molas Lake Campground is that it is surrounded by the most stunning snow-capped peaks in Colorado, the San Juan Mountains. Be ready to be awed by the epic scenery as you go on hiking.

It is also near the scenic and quiet Weminuche Wilderness which is considered as the biggest wilderness area in the state at 499,771 acres. You will love trekking the Weminuche Wilderness if your family is into the adventure. You won’t get this anywhere else. I recommend that you take the scenic route rather than the I-70 route. The view is pretty amazing which starts with the Colorado mountain landscape and then climaxes to an incredible road around the magnificent San Juan Mountains.

You would feel that you are from a different planet as you see the red-capped mountains. Though it might take you around 7 hours to travel, it’s definitely worth the trip.
